The Church of St. Gothard is Slaný’s most significant Gothic monument and dominates the historic center. Founded by Benedictines in the 12th century, it underwent gradual Gothic reconstruction in the 14th and 15th centuries and was damaged during the Hussite Wars. Unique features include the late Gothic presbytery with wall paintings and the preserved roof truss. The church was further modified in the Baroque style and has undergone several renovations, with the latest focusing on the restoration of stonework elements and stained-glass windows. Inside, you’ll find valuable furnishings, including 15th-century wooden doors and bells from the late 15th century. Wikipedia

A magnificent place. We arranged a tour of the church, with the choir loft and tower with bells, via the email address above, and were thrilled. The tours are individual, the guide is excellent and very knowledgeable (he knew the answer to every question), and the commentary was very captivating and interesting. You can touch the medieval bells and beams! Admission is voluntary, in the form of a contribution to the box for bell repairs. It is also possible to arrange an occasional tour for hand bell ringing.
