Hauenštejn is a medieval castle rebuilt as a chateau in the Krušné hory mountains near Stráž nad Ohří. Likely founded in the 13th century, it passed through the hands of many owners, including the Šliks, who Renaissance-rebuilt it in the 16th century. After a complex history, during which it also served as a recreational center and children's home, it fell into disrepair. Since 1999, it has been privately owned and is undergoing sensitive reconstruction with the aim of opening it to the public as a cultural monument.
We spent a lovely weekend here, sleeping in the chambers and in the tower, and explored the entire castle, which is gradually being reconstructed. We admire the owners with their family and friends for being able to literally give the castle the appearance of a noble residence again, with a unique atmosphere.

Extensive beautiful castle ruin, gradually undergoing reconstruction. It is possible to explore it independently without a guide. Definitely worth a visit.
